TWO PUBLIC MEETINGS FOR DOWNTOWN MASTER PLAN SET FOR OCT. 1
20-year plan needs new input from public
Creating a new downtown master plan to help guide development over the next 20 years is truly a colossal effort that requires the involvement of a diverse community of people who care about the heart of our city. To ensure the community has an opportunity to get up close and personal with this dynamic process and share their ideas about downtown, two public outreach events are scheduled Oct. 1 at Historic Fifth Street School from 2 to 4 pm and 5:30 to 7:30 pm.
Attendees will have an opportunity to respond to a new proposed vision to guide downtown Las Vegas in the future, learn the results of an extensive economic market study and weigh in on proposed alternative plans for downtown.
Led by RTKL, a leading global architecture and urban design firm, the city’s team of consultants, working alongside city staff and under the direction of our Mayor and City Council, are mid-way through an 18-month process to develop a plan to better facilitate the physical, social and economic development of downtown Las Vegas. It’s a big job, but we are confident that with the community’s help, we can get there.
In fact, on August 26, a special workshop for the Downtown Master Plan was held at The Smith Center for members of both city council and the public. An important outcome of this meeting was the re-evaluation of the boundaries of downtown for purposes of this plan. This kind of input is critical to ensuring the new master plan is both relevant and meaningful to stakeholders.
The opportunity to help shape a vision for the future of a vital, urban Las Vegas is an exciting one. In fact, the public can participate online at any time online. To take a series of quick surveys and give your feedback about downtown, visit www.visionlv.com.
