Down to Business – June 2015

The city of Las Vegas is making it even easier to park downtown and ensure your meter doesn’t run out – all with the click of a button on your smart phone!
If your meeting runs long or the line is a little longer than you thought at your favorite lunch spot, you no longer have to stop what you’re doing to feed the parking meter. Those using street parking, parking in city lots, or lots in which the city is a partner, can now use their cell phones to add time to meters.
For on–street parking meters, download the Parkmobile app, available for iPhone, Android, Windows, BlackBerry and Amazon devices. For parking lots, download the PassportParking app for iPhone and Android devices. The apps send reminders when your meter time is about to expire. They also allow you to download your parking receipts.
Parking lots included in the program are: Goldspike Lot at 208 N. Las Vegas Blvd.; Carson Lot at 200 S. Las Vegas Blvd.; Matlock Lot at 408 E. Clark Ave.; DTC Lot at 300 N. Casino Center Blvd.; Downtowner Lot at 108 N. Eighth St.; Container Park Lot at 146 S. Seventh St.; Llama Lot at 900 Fremont St.; and Symphony Park Lot at 850 W. Clark Ave.
In addition to being able to add time to meters via cell phone, the city has standardized meter fees for street parking. The standardization is designed to create more space availability for those visiting the Fremont East Entertainment District and the Fremont Street Experience, while providing an option for downtown employees to also utilize street parking.
“To ensure patrons of downtown businesses have access to convenient parking, we have created premium zones close to businesses for visitors,” said city of Las Vegas Parking Manager Brandy Stanley. “At the same time, we have created supplemental zones nearby offering parking at reduced rates more suitable for employees of those businesses.”
The supplemental zones will offer month-long permits ideal for downtown employees.
In addition to creating these new zones and standardizing rates, the city has reduced on-street metered parking by 91 spaces, increasing free parking options downtown.
The city is implementing a long-term parking plan with the goal of providing excellent customer service; making parking easy to use; improving financial performance; supporting existing businesses by tailoring parking options for customers, employees and residents; and supporting new development by examining shared parking options and creating flexibility for special events.
