ARTS DISTRICT

The Modern LV is one of the most exciting projects on the downtown drawing board right now, with a strong leadership roster, including Brett Sperry, and several other dedicated partners including Julie Murray, Brian “Paco” Alvarez, Tim Bavington, Katie O’Neill, Tina Quigley, and many other community leaders. The complex is planned for two acres in the growing downtown arts district and a $29 million capital campaign is currently underway to make it a reality. The goal is to break ground in 2015 and open the museum in late 2017.
Envisioned as an inspiring institution dedicated to visual arts and design, The Modern campus will include three components: The Modern, a contemporary art museum, the Center for Creativity, and Luminous Park. Since the project went public 6 months ago, major strides have been made to secure strong partnerships, engage community stakeholders, and bolster fundraising.
“The project is consistent with the city priority of economic development by directly creating jobs and providing a tremendous catalyst for change and new development within the Arts District and overall downtown,” said Scott Adams, City of Las Vegas’ Deputy City Manager.
The Modern will house 35,000 square feet of museum galleries with an important and progressive series of rotating exhibits showcasing the works of both established and emerging artists from the 20th century onward.
The Center for Creativity will encompass 15,000 square feet of dynamic learning space, offering a variety of high-quality, interactive educational programs for all ages, reaching artists and visionaries of all economic levels to help them pursue their craft and develop marketable skills.
Luminous Park will be a compelling outdoor sculpture garden featuring interactive exhibits, walking paths and community gathering spaces. It will provide a much-needed green space to Las Vegas’ downtown.
The Modern will include indoor and outdoor event space. The current office, located in Arts Square, also provides an intimate, 500-square-foot venue for small events, and 1,500 square feet of outdoor courtyard space.
