ARTS DISTRICT – OCTOBER 2014

10/06/14
Reclaimed Art Suppliez
Reclaimed Art Suppliez is more than the first creative reuse store in Las Vegas. It is the embodiment of its two owners’ activist missions: give back to the community and promote re-purposing and sharing.
Both Jen Harney and her business partner, Quency Hilton, say their store is part of the “circulatory system of giving” as Jen states. Reclaimed is part of a growing movement in the U.S. and the world – there are more than 40 such stores in the country now.
Aside from selling donated arts supplies, Reclaimed hosts arty parties for kids and adults, workshops, art galleries, a “creation station” (where people can re-purpose discarded materials into art), the Las Vegas Photo Collective and more. Signature Reclaimed events include “Party on the Porch “on Preview Thursday, a monthly Open Mic night, and of course, they are open for First Friday. Teachers, families, artists, crafters and neighbors have discovered the store but everyone is welcome to join in the fun. Donations of clean, safe, gently used art supplies are accepted only during business hours.
No clothing please, but Reclaimed does host a clothing swap once a month.
Also, recently the Open Closet Project moved into space within Reclaimed. So now customers can trade their gently used clothing for other gently used clothing or make cash donations – same hours as Reclaimed.
Reclaimed Art Suppliez is located at 114 S. Casino Center Blvd., #1, Las Vegas, NV 89104. The store is supported by the United Movement Organizing Kindness non-profit where fans can make financial donations (http://www.umokindness.org/). Volunteers at the shop are also welcome.
Hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 12/noon – 9pm.;702-678-6089, www.reclaimedart.org, https://www.facebook.com/ReclaimedArtSuppliez.
